Consider Growing Your own Tomatoes

Gardening season is soon approaching. Many of us are beginning to design our gardens; making a list as to what vegetables we would like to see.  One product that is top of my list every year is the Tomato. Not only for its bright vibrant color that is added to my yard, or it’s delicious flavor picked fresh from the vine; the health benefits of fresh picked tomatoes is incredible.

Tomatoes as a whole are healthy and delicious.  They always make their way into the grocery list.  However, where do your tomatoes come from? How far of a journey have they made into your plate.  The fact is, tomatoes do not ship well.  In order to make their way to the grocery store in a seemingly ripened state, the tomato is picked very early.  Therefore, they are packaged green and ripened through the voyage.  The disadvantage of this is that the tomato is not given the opportunity to acquire all its nutrients our that our body needs as it would have if picked ripe from the vine.

There are so many health benefits that tomatoes can bring into our lives. They are a fantastic source of vitamin A and C; which make them a great anti-inflammatory. They contain Vitamin B (B1,B2,B5) and iron which is great for increasing energy levels. Great source of fiber. They are great for maintaining the bones in our bodies through Vitamin K and Magnesium. The Nicotine Acid in tomatoes help with cholesterol levels. Tomatoes a high in antioxidants which brings me to discuss how they combat free radicals in our body through Lycopene. Research has shown that free radicals in the body have been linked to such challenges as Heart disease, Alzheimer, Arthritis, Diabetes, and some types of Cancers. Lycopene is a antioxidant that exists in Tomatoes and an excellent ally to battle these diseases.

The beauty of fresh tomatoes is that they taste great.  Freshly picked the go well in salads, Sandwiches, wraps, juices and/or just dressed with a little parsley and olive oil.  So many recipes are available with this little healthy vegetable. Cooking tomatoes is one favorite. As a sauce or on skewers , or cooked alone then accompanied with rice or quinoa; cooking tomatoes is very advantageous to your health.  The fact is, a tomatoes carries with it a lot of water. Therefore, when the tomatoes is being cooked, the water will evaporate leaving a sweeter tomato packed with a higher concentrate of Lycopene. And we know now why we want that.

So this year add color and health to your garden.  Invite the tomato for dinner, lunch or breakfast at home. They are easy to grow, and taste great fresh. For those who are seeking a great product that delivers an abundant amount of tomatoes; try the Tomato Giant Tree.
